The West Midlands Residential Renewables and Commerical Battery Storage Partner
Can you tell us about the origins of your company and the key services you offer? How did you venture into the field of renewable energy, specifically battery energy storage systems?
Ashby Electrical Ltd. was formed in 2018, providing a complete range of nationwide electrical design, installation, testing, inspection, and maintenance services. Through various workstreams, we had the opportunity to install renewable technologies, which really enthused us to create our own eco division, where we support clients in finding sustainable solutions for their homes and businesses.
Please provide some information around the size
of company and your team?
In which geographical areas do you primarily operate, and what would you say are people’s attitudes, both home and commercial, to renewable energy?
We're based in the West Midlands, north of Birmingham, 5 minutes away from the M6 corridor, which allows us to support clients far and wide. A large part of our business supports the Rail network, so we can find ourselves pretty much anywhere in the UK.
We're noticing significant changes in people's mindset towards renewable energy. The initial thought towards the transition was overwhelming. However, we're helping to break this down into bite-size changes that positively impact both homes and businesses. We're actively involved in the New Build sector, and it's fantastic to see how developers are working hand in hand with local authorities to reduce their carbon footprint whilst ensuring that their solutions are affordable and sustainable for end users. A project we're currently supporting has Solar PV coupled with Home Battery Storage, EV chargers and low-carbon infrared heating panels–it's great to see!!
Could you describe your typical customer? How do you tailor your services to meet the diverse needs of residential, commercial, and industrial clients?
Our typical customers vary, from businesses looking to decarbonise and reduce their reliance on fossil fuel-generated energy and change to renewable solutions and commercial battery storage to homeowners looking to make long-term investments in renewable solutions for their properties. We're also heavily involved in government-backed retrofit schemes and New-Build developments, all of which are fantastic workstreams to be part of.
What motivated your decision to partner with AlphaESS UK for battery energy storage solutions? How has this partnership enhanced the value you provide to your customers?
As demand grows for battery storage solutions, we're seeing lots of new start-up suppliers enter the industry and a vast variation in quality and reliability. To ensure installations are commercially viable for us and the customer journey is of the highest standard, it was important for us to be working with a manufacturer that can tick all of the boxes: affordability, reliability, End-user interaction and backup support should we need it. AlphaESS most certainly tick all of those boxes. Installer and customer feedback has been nothing but positive, making our lives much easier!
From your experience, what sets AlphaESS products apart from other energy storage solutions in the market? Can you share a particularly interesting and successful installation story involving an AlphaESS system?
There are several compelling reasons why we have chosen to partner with AlphaESS. One key advantage is the uniformity of installation across their product portfolio, which simplifies the process for our team and ensures consistency in our offerings.
Additionally, the ease of commissioning their systems makes it straightforward for us to integrate their solutions into our projects. We also appreciate the outstanding customer app, which is user-friendly and frequently updated, enhancing the overall user experience.
In addition, AlphaESS provides on-site customer support whenever we need assistance, which adds an extra layer of reliability. Their UK presence, backed by a dedicated sales and support team, ensures that help is always readily available when we require it.
How do you stay informed about the latest developments in the energy sector, and how do these trends impact your business strategies and the solutions you offer?
We monitor several publications, from the Government's updated Net Zero strategy to the recent changes announced by MCS. It's great to see increased funding across various sectors and the revision of regulatory requirements that make it easier for installers to focus on the quality of installation and end-user experience.
What advice would you give to someone considering integrating battery energy storage into their home or business? How does AlphaESS facilitate this transition?
Our advice would be to "do it"! It really is that simple–the ability to store and manage energy consumption for any home or business has such a positive impact all around. See it as an 'investment' rather than a 'cost'! We can make this transition seamless by using quality products such as AlphaESS, with lots of options that can suit budgets, customer needs, and long-term plans.
Can the UK hit its Net Zero targets? If you were energy minister for the UK, what would you be doing?
Great question.... the answer is obviously 'Yes'; anything's possible. As mentioned in a previous question, this transition can seem overwhelming; however, when broken down into marginal gains, the path to Net Zero can be far more straightforward. If I were to pinpoint my top three;
- Education (help simplify the language used when talking about Net Zero–if I asked 10 people what Net Zero means, I'd expect 10 different responses. We need to define the actions we're asking people to take (whether for their home or business) and keep things simple!
- Simplify the funding pots and application processes. Too many people fall at the first hurdle and give up accessing available support; therefore, the schemes often work against themselves.
- Set milestone achievements, make these readily available, and shout from the rooftops when achievable.
Get a 'feel good' factor around the transition and positively promote real-life examples of communities and businesses that benefit from new tech and no longer rely on fossil fuel generation.
Looking ahead, how do you see renewable energy and battery energy storage evolving in the UK’s energy landscape? What are your company’s plans for growth and adaptation in this changing environment?
I see solar PV, battery storage, and, eventually, heat pumps as the norm. With significant investment in the new build sector, homes will be future-proofed with sustainable tech, which I hope will help influence the private sector to invest in their own transition to net zero carbon solutions. At Ashby, we're continually to grow our capability to support clients through investment in upskilling & training for both office and field-based teams, as well as helping to create new positions within our organisation for people who are passionate in this space.
What message would you like to give to other installers or companies considering a partnership with AlphaESS UK?
My message would be as simple as this: If you're looking to offer your installation team and end users a great experience, working with AlphaESS will play a huge part in bringing this to life. We're looking forward to upcoming projects where we'll collaborate and support clients with a mix of AlphaESS products.
