Shaping the Future of Renewable Energy Installers at Warrington & Vale Royal College

With the renewable energy sector expanding rapidly, the need for skilled professionals is more critical than ever.

At AlphaESS UK, we’re at the forefront of providing cutting-edge battery energy storage systems, and we’re also committed to educating and guiding the next generation of renewable energy industry expertise. We recently demonstrated our ongoing industry commitment during a hands-on workshop delivered at Warrington & Vale Royal College.

Introducing Battery Energy Storage to Tomorrow’s Installers

The workshop resulted from a conversation with the college about the growing importance of teaching renewable energy concepts to aspiring electricians. After initial discussions and planning, Mark Hale, AlphaESS UK’s Managing Director brought a battery storage unit and an inverter to the college, giving students a rare opportunity to see the technology up close and understand its practical applications.

Over two one-hour sessions, the students learned about the technical aspects of battery energy storage systems, including how they are connected, work, and key considerations like temperature management and battery sizing.

“The workshop gave the students a chance to see beyond traditional wiring tasks and into the possibilities of working with renewable energy technologies,” explained Glyn Barnard, the course leader.

Broadening Career Horizons

The session’s goal wasn’t just to introduce battery storage but also to inspire students to consider the wider opportunities available in the renewable energy sector.

Mark showed the students how their skills as electricians could be applied in diverse fields such as solar farms, wind energy, and commercial and residential battery storage systems.

The college has taken steps to expand its curriculum to reflect this growing industry, including a six-week block dedicated to sustainability, waste management, and renewable energy. “It’s vital for students to see how their skills fit into the bigger picture. This isn’t just about installing wiring in homes—it’s about equipping them for the future of energy,” noted the college instructor.

ENGAGING & INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION

The workshop was well received, with students showing genuine interest and asking insightful questions. Many walked away with a clearer understanding of how renewable technologies could become a part of their future careers. Mark tailored the sessions to the audience, ensuring the technical content was accessible and engaging for the 16-18 age group.

The hands-on nature of the workshop also reinforced practical skills, helping students understand the real-world implications of the technology. As Glyn explained, “The presentation really resonated with the students. It wasn’t just about explaining concepts—it was about showing them how these systems work in the field and why they matter.”

LOOKING AHEAD

The workshop’s success has paved the way for future collaboration between AlphaESS UK and the college. Plans are underway for additional sessions to reach and support even more students and further enrich their learning experience.

“It’s clear there’s a growing interest among students, and the session showed them the exciting career paths available in renewable energy,” the college team said.

A Commitment to Education and Sustainability

This initiative further demonstrates the collective AlphaESS UK team commitment to sustainability, innovation, and education. By partnering with educational institutions, we’re promoting renewable energy and battery energy storage technology to the next generation and helping to build the skilled workforce needed to drive the energy transition.

Workshops like this are a win-win, providing students with valuable insights into an evolving industry while ensuring that renewable energy continues to grow as a viable and accessible career option.
